Baking soda is an amazing powder, given many names by scientists and nerdy folk alike. Names like sodium bicarbonate, bicarbonate of soda, sodium hydrogen carbonate, or sodium acid carbonate- all mean the same thing: baking soda. Our pH level needs to be at about 7 (neural) and baking soda's is more alkaline at about 8- but here's the cool nerdy thing- if it mixes with more acidic or alkaline substances... it still stays at 8- meaning it's perfect for anti-acids, fire extinguishing and of course, cleaning. "When baking soda is used as a cleaner in paste form or dry on a damp sponge, its crystalline structure provides a gentle abrasion that helps to remove dirt without scratching sensitive surfaces. Its mild alkalinity works to turn up fatty acids contained in dirt and grease into a form of soap that can be dissolved in water and rinsed easily.
